After dropping their final game against the Sussex County Miners, the Ottawa Champions bounced back in grand style with a 6-2 win over the New Jersey Jackals in the series-opening game at Yogi Berra Stadium Friday.

The Jackals would get on the board first when Ottawa’s Steve Nyisztor made an error at second base allowing Johnny Bladel to score from second base, giving New Jersey a 1-0 lead in the first.

After the Jackals made it 2-0, one swing of the bat was all the Champions needed to break the game open. Steve Brown came up to the plate with the bases loaded in the top of the third, and cleared them with a double scoring three runs and vaulting Ottawa to the lead.

They wouldn’t look back from there, and took a 6-2 decision away from the first game of the series. Austin Chrismon (W, 8-3) took away his third straight win.

The victory and Sussex County’s 7-3 loss to the Quebec Capitales means the Champions are back in a playoff spot.

In other Can-Am League action, Rockland shaded Trois-Rivieres 9-8.
