Pointstreak, the official statistician of the Can-Am League, has announced that New Jersey Jackals OF Johnny Bladel has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending July 2.
Bladel hit .480 (12-for-25) this week, collecting three doubles and an RBI, helping the Jackals to five wins. Until Sunday’s game at the Ottawa Champions, the Ashburn, VA, native was riding a 10-game hitting streak.
He began his week on Tuesday, facing the Sussex County Miners at home. In the game, a 7-5 New Jersey win, Bladel was 2-for-3, drawing two walks and scoring three runs. A day later, Bladel notched two more hits, putting together a 2-for-5 line with a double and two runs scored in a 7-4 win. Despite the Jackals falling in Thursday’s series finale, Bladel kept his streak alive with a 1-for-4 night in which he walked and scored a run.
New Jersey traveled into Canada to face the Champions in a four-game series which began with a Friday doubleheader. Bladel was 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in Friday’s first game, but the Jackals fell 5-2. The club bounced back to win the nightcap 4-3, and Bladel was 1-for-3 with a double, walk and run scored. His best game of the week came on Saturday, as he compiled a line of 4-for-6 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored in a wild 14-10 win. Though his streak ended on Sunday, the Jackals took the series with a 2-1 triumph.
Bladel is now hitting .394 on the season, leading the Can-Am League. He has amassed 17 doubles, five triples, four home runs and 26 RBI. 2017 marks his third season in the Can-Am League, as he hit .293 in 81 games with the Jackals in 2016. He spent 2015 with the Sussex County Miners, hitting .281 in 73 games.
