Pointstreak, the official statistician of the Can-Am League, has announced that Quebec Capitales OF Kalian Sams has been named the league’s Rawlings Player of the Month for the month of June. Sams hit .342 (40-for-117) in June, collecting five doubles, a triple, 12 home runs and 32 RBI. He notched an impressive 11 multi-hit games in June.
Sams’ bat made an impact early in the month, as he went 3-for-5 on June 2 against the Rockland Boulders. He hit a double and a home run, driving in two in a 6-5 Quebec win. That game was just a precursor to a four-day stretch beginning June 6. That night, facing the Trois-Rivieres Aigles on the road, Sams went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI as the Capitales rolled 23-1. He homered twice the very next day, driving in five runs in a 15-10 win over Trois-Rivieres. Quebec came home on June 8, and Sams was 4-for-4 in the series opener, homering twice and driving in three runs in a 4-3 win. Sams homered yet again on June 9 against Ottawa, going 2-for-4 with a double and a home run. Quebec won 8-4.
Sams had another huge game near the end of the month on June 27, as he was 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, three RBI and three runs scored against Trois-Rivieres. Quebec won 10-8.
On the season, his third with the Capitales, Sams is batting an impressive .340 with nine doubles, a triple, 14 home runs and 38 RBI. He sits second in the league in home runs and fifth in RBI.
