The Ottawa Champions have brought in five new players.

The Ottawa Champions have signed RHP Victor Beriguete, RHP Raydel Sanchez, LHP James Mulry, C Tyler Nordgren, and IF Brandon Fischer to contracts for the 2017 season.

Beriguete, 28, split the 2016 season between the Frontier League’s River City Rascals and Normal CornBelters where he combined to go 5-2 with a 2.86 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched. A native of Santo Domingo, DR, Beriguete was originally by the New York Yankees, playing as high as Single-A Charleston in the South Atlantic League.

Sanchez, 27, last played in 2015 with the American Association’s Joplin Blasters where he went 1-2 with a 13.50 ERA in four appearances (two starts). The Peilon, Cuba, native was originally signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers and spent four years in their organization, compiling a 11-22 record with a 4.71 ERA and 212 strikeouts in 309.1 innings pitched, while making it as high as Double-A Chattanooga in the South Atlantic League.

Mulry, 23, pitched four seasons at Northeastern University in Boston, MA, compiling a career record of 11-21 with a 4.97 ERA and 197 strikeouts in 228 innings pitched. The West Roxbury, MA native made 14 starts for Northeastern in 2016, finishing with a 3-7 record and 5.28 ERA in 75 innings.

Nordgren, 25, split the 2016 season between the Pittsburg Mettle of the Pacific Association and Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League where he combined to hit .325 with one home run and 18 RBI in 46 games. The San Diego, CA, native played college baseball at Point Loma Nazarene University in his hometown in 2013 and 2014 before spending 2015 with the Vallejo Admirals in the Pacific Association.

Fischer, played the 2015/16 season with St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, NY, where he batted .283 with two homers and 20 RBI in 29 games. The Long Island, NY, native also played for the North Shores Navigators of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League in 2015, where he batted .338 with one home run and 36 RBI in 54 games and was also named to the All-Star team.
